Soft Drink, Chips Mean Jail By ANDY KOBER About 2 p.m., Thursday, May 13, Pine Mountain police officers responded to a shoplifting call at the Corner Shop: ..... The Corner Shopis located in the Chiptey Village-corn: .... _ple_x at thecomer0fu:S_H-27 and Ga. Hwy. 354. A clerk in the store reported that a man had stolen a Mountain Dew soft drink and a bag of potato chips, and left the store on foot. The clerk provided a description of the man and clothing he had been wearing. Chief John Bramell, Lt. Shane Fitch and Officer Chris Jones responded to the call and began to search the area. As the officers searched Tor the suspect, a:HaHs ti County deputy sheriff reported seeing a person match- ing the description that had been walking north along U.S. Hwy 27 toward Pine Mountain prior to the shoplifting report. Fitch reportedly found the suspect behind Fox's Pizza and according to the report he had a Mountain Dew soft drink and a bag of potato chips. When questioned by the officers the suspect reportedly would only give his name as "Tea C". The suspect was allegedly identified by the store clerk as the shoplifter. The suspect was subsequently transported to the Harris County Jail where he repeatedly refused to give his name. The report indicates that Harris County deputies found an abandoned Chevrolet on Interstate 85 and had the car towed. During the investigation, it was determined the car belonged to the suspect caught shoplifting in Pine Mountain. Officers were able to finally identify the shoplifter as Mutale Chisela, of Columbus. Chisela was charged with theft by shoplifting, obstruc- tion of officers and giving a false name or information to officers.
